  • What is Gel Polish?

Gel polish is a type of nail product that’s cured (hardened) under a UV or LED lamp, instead of air-drying like regular polish. It also requires a specific removal technique with acetone which is recommended to be done by a professional nail tech.

    Should I choose Gel Polish?

Gel Polish (sometimes referred to as ‘Shellac’) is the perfect nail treatment for those looking for regular nail maintenance with natural, strong nails that don’t need extra support or if you are looking for one off appointments for an event/holiday.

What are the steps of the treatment?

Every appointment at Oh Nails by Lauren begins with safe & thorough cuticle preparation with an e-file, followed by precise application over your natural nails, of base coat, your chosen colour of Gel Polish then a topcoat. If booked, you can also choose nail art. The treatment then finishes with a nourishing cuticle oil.

    When should I rebook?

If for a one off appointment, it is recommended to book a removal 2-3 weeks later. If booking a re-application, it is also recommended 2-3 weeks but this can depend on nail growth, some clients may get 4 weeks.

Please choose the removal and reapplication if you have previous gel polish on. If you have work on not completed by me, please choose the foreign removal service.

  • What is Builder Gel?

Builder Gel (commonly referred to as ‘BIAB’) is a service used to support the growth of your own natural nails.

    Should I choose Builder Gel?

Builder gel is the perfect nail treatment for those with short to mid-length nails wishing to upkeep monthly nail health and maintenance, stop nail biting & skin picking or those who wish to grow their own nails & give them added strength with no added length.

What are the steps of the treatment?

Every builder gel overlay & rebalance begins with safe & thorough cuticle preparation with the e-file, followed by application of base coat, plain builder gel, either a gel colour or nail art (if booked) & then a topcoat. The treatment then finishes with a nourishing cuticle oil.

When should I book a rebalance?

It is recommended to book a rebalance every 3-4 weeks due to growth. As your nails grow, the builder gel grows with them and begins to put weight on the stress point of your nails which can cause damage lifting, chipping & breakages.

What is the difference between an overlay & a rebalance?

A builder gel overlay is the service you choose for your first appointment, it is the product initially being applied to your natural nails to add strength.

A builder gel rebalance are the maintenance services following your first appointment. As your nails grow, a gap will appear near your cuticle & the structure shifts forward with the apex (stress point) moving out of balance. The aim of a rebalance is to fill the growth area, rebuild the structure and reshape/reseal.

Builder Gel does not have any properties that ‘strengthen’ your nails but instead, acts as the strength itself due to it’s durability. It also may not be the treatment for everyone.

  • What are Full Cover Tips?

Full Cover Tips (also called “soft gel tips” or press-on style extensions) are pre-shaped artificial nails that cover your entire natural nail.

    Should I choose Builder Gel?

Full Cover Tips are the perfect nail treatment for those with wishing to add instant length, those who wish to grow their own nails & give them added strength with instant added length & nail biters or skin pickings may prefer this option too.

What are the steps of the treatment?

Every full cover tip treatment begins with safe & thorough cuticle preparation with the e-file, this is followed by precise sizing of the tips, the gel adhesive is then applied & cured onto the natural nail with a UV light to keep them in place whilst the rest of the hand is completed. The tips are then placed in the lamp for a full cure, before applying gel polish or nail art, if booked. A topcoat is applied to seal any colour or desgins. The treatment ends with a nourishing cuticle oil.

When should I book an infill?

It is recommended to book an infill every 3-4 weeks due to growth. As your nails grow, the tips grow with them and begins to put stress & weight on the stress point of your nails which can cause damage lifting, chipping & breakages. A full removal is recommended every 2-3 infills.
